Next day we awoke and took a look around. It was a bleak desert landscape, but we enjoyed our solitude.

Continuing on the dirt road for about 2 hours, it was necessary to stop periodically to clear brush out of the way on the sides and sometimes on the top. The varied terrain meant we had to check that our new bike rack would not hit in the back when we drove up and out of dips. It did in a few spots so we raised the Earthroamer’s suspension to go through dips and lowered it when the brush was too low over the top. We had to stop about 3/4 mile from the end because we couldn’t make it through a dip without damaging the rack. No problem though. We stopped, removed our bikes, and biked the rest of the way.

The geode beds yielded many small geodes for us.

We smashed some open with a hammer and saved some for future cutting.

From here we made our way to Gila Bend AZ. After a delicious dinner at the Little Italy Restaurant, we parked, with permission, in the empty parking lot of the beautifully maintained, but deserted Gila Bend Airport. Two McDonnell RF-101C-70-MC Voodoo airplanes flanked either side of the entrance.
